Overview

The Danbury Lightning was founded in 2011 as part of the Danbury Athletic Youth Organization (D.A.Y.O.). The goal was to allow Middle School athletes in the Danbury area the opportunity to learn and compete in youth track and field. It has since expanded to include children as young as 2nd grade.

We are USA Track and Field,  and AAU members, and compete locally in the Western Connecticut Conference (WCC), where we have won 3 championships since 2011.

We have high quality, experienced coaches and staff who bring a variety of experience in coaching youth and competing in track and field at the collegiate level in sprints, distance, and field events.

We have three seasons.  The Spring Season is run during the school year, beginning in March and ending in early June. At the end of the season there is an awards banquet.  Each athlete is recognized for their participation with a certificate, with outstanding accomplishments being recognized with medals.

The Summer season begins in early June and ends in early August. It presents a great opportunity for athletes to start or continue their training while seeing increased competition.  It’s also a great way to stay in shape going into the fall.

This year, for the first time, we will offer a Winter Indoor season. The season will begin in mid-November and end in March. It's a great way to prepare for Spring athletics.

We partner with our athlete’s parents to focus on building character, self-esteem, and accountability in our middle school athletes in a fun and competitive environment.  We strive to develop each athlete to their greatest potential, while instilling the values of commitment, dedication, and continuous improvement.

Our program is aligned with the Danbury High School so that our athletes are well prepared for the next level.

GO LIGHTNING!
