The Danbury Lightning Indoor Track & Field Program offers boys and girls ages 5 through 15 the opportunity to build strength, speed, endurance, and confidence while learning and competing in track and field. Practices are designed to help athletes reach their potential in a fun, focused, and competitive environment.
Coaches work with athletes in small groups on events such as Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin as needed to prepare them for competition. As proud USA Track & Field team members, Danbury Lightning competes locally in the Western Connecticut Conference and regionally with USATF and AAU-affiliated youth teams, while building character, self-esteem, teamwork, and leadership skills in every athlete.

Danbury Lightning offers three track and field seasons: Spring, Summer, and Winter Indoor Track. Spring season runs from March through early June, and Summer season runs from June through August, with practices held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Danbury High School. Winter Indoor season runs from November through March, with practices on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Harambee Youth Center, 54 West Street, Danbury.
Track meets are typically held on Sunday mornings starting around 8:00 AM and may last until approximately 4:00 PM. Middle school athletes may have the opportunity to compete in the Middle School State Championship by meeting qualifying standards. The team often ends the season with a championship-level road trip meet.
Our coaching staff is made up of highly qualified and experienced coaches who bring a strong range of track and field knowledge to the program. With backgrounds that include USATF Level 1 Certification and college-level competition experience, our coaches help athletes develop their skills in sprints, distance, and field events while preparing them for the next level of competition.
At the end of the season, Danbury Lightning usually holds a team gathering to celebrate athletes and recognize their accomplishments. Each athlete is recognized for their participation with a certificate, while outstanding achievements are honored with medals.
