Track and Field

The Danbury Lightning offers boys and girls ages 5 through 18 (7- 15 During Winter Indoor Season) the opportunity to get into great condition while learning about and competing in Track and Field.  Practices are designed to allow each athlete to reach their potential in a fun and competitive environment.  Practices are held for the Spring and Summer on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Danbury High School. For the Indoor Season practice change to Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM after we have our first meet. Practices are held at The Harambee Youth Center 54 West St. in Danbury. Meets are typically on Sunday Mornings from 8:00 AM and can sometimes last as late as 5:00 PM.

Coaches work with small groups of athletes on field events, such as hurdles, Shot Put Discus, and Javelin as needed to ensure that they are prepared for competition.  Our focus is on building character, self-esteem, teamwork, and leadership skills in our athletes.

We have three seasons, Spring, Summer, and Winter (Indoor) Seasons.  The Spring Season begins in March and ends in early June. Our Middle School Athletes will have an opportunity to compete in the Middle School State Championship by meeting the qualification Standards.  At the end of the spring season, we usually have an awards banquet.  Each athlete is recognized for their participation with a certificate, with outstanding accomplishments being recognized with medals.

The Summer Season begins in early June and ends in early August. It's a great opportunity for athletes to start, or continue their training to enhance their competitive edge.  It’s also a great way to stay in shape for other sports going into the fall.
