2014 Season Recap

Spring Season

The spring season was an exciting and successful one for the Lightning.  In WCC Competition, our Girls won the team championship for the second time in three years, posting wins in the 4 X 100M Relay and the 400M dash, where one of our outgoing 8th Graders, Leah Sarkisian, set the meet record. Leah also won the CT Middle School State Championship at 400M.

Our boys team finished third overall, and laid the foundation for the 2015 season by winning the 4 X 100 M relay with a team of “underclassmen” and the 200M dash, which was won by Saveon James, one of our outstanding 7th graders.

Summer Season

The summer season also saw our team do well, while competing largely in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

In AAU competition, 8 members of our team qualified for the 2014 AAU Junior Olympics at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Two of our athletes, Ryan Caldwell and Alex Jakubowski, traveled to Des Moines to compete.

We also had our 13-14 year old boys 4 X 100 relay, run by Kyle Morrissey, Saveon James, Jordan Reid, and Malachias Lorick represent the state of Connecticut at the prestigious 37th Hershey’s Track & Field Games North American Final.  The final was held in Hershey, PA, where the team and their coaches got to meet U.S. Olympic Gold Medalists Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Dan O’Brien.

While we said goodbye to some talented 8th graders, we said hello to a group of talented 5th and 6th graders, who along with our rising 7th graders have us looking forward to another great season in 2015!
